Thornbury House Summer Holiday to Tunisia

11-09-2012

This year the Young People at Thornbury House chose Tunisia as our destination for their summer holiday.

After many weeks of discussions during our weekly house meetings, we decided that an all inclusive resort offering lots of sports, leisure and social activities would be perfect for our summer break.

On Wednesday 15th August, everyone was up at the early time of 2am to get showered and dressed. Although it felt like it was already morning, we had to remember the neighbours at this early hour and to whisper as we all excitedly clambered into the car with our suitcases to head for Stansted. On arrival, Chris was especially excited as he had never been in an aeroplane before so it was going to be a completely new experience.

We checked in and made our way through to have breakfast (we had our priorities in order).

The flight was great fun and we landed in Tunisia which was hot and sunny (very different to the usual English summer!!) and we realised right then our holiday had really begun.

The hotel complex was great and very family orientated. We had two apartments that were spacious and very comfortable. The staff supported us to unpack and we settled in and went to investigate our surroundings. We found everything at the hotel was really easily accessible. There were lots of games facilities,  large pools, a private beach, water slides and flumes and local water sports including parasailing, banana boat rides, jet skiing and snorkelling.

We enjoyed the hot weather and were very careful to keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water. The food was amazing with loads of choices to meet all our needs and wishes (and some of us are quite fussy!)

The evening entertainment was fab and offered singing, dancing, music and local culture. We had every opportunity to fulfil our interests including visiting a local animal sanctuary, shaking hands with sea lions and seals, parasailing from the back of a boat, a day out on a pirate ship and handling a kestrel before jumping into the sea to swim with the dolphins, riding on jet skis and learning to snorkel to look at all the beautiful fish and sea life.

It really was an experience to remember and we all had a fantastic time. We took lots of photos to help us look back on an especially happy time.

So where will we go next year? Watch this space for updates....................
