Systemic Psychotherapist

I have a master’s degree in psychotherapy and previously worked as a family systemic therapist at The Priory Hospital in Chelmsford [two years] as well as the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service [six years] leading the Family Therapy team and mentoring new therapists. I now conduct therapy in a private capacity for adults and children as well as whole families. As a psychotherapist I have undertaken group work for bereaved teenage girls, group family work as well as consulting work for other therapists. I have regular supervision in my work as a therapist and, in accordance with the regulations of my governing body, attend lectures and workshops to update my knowledge. Last year I attended 11 days of training in Trauma and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Educational Psychologist

I have a master’s degree in educational psychology and work privately as an Educational Psychologist. In this role I liaise with Heads, Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators and parents in primary, secondary and special provision. I can work with individual children, groups or classes of children or whole school issues. I also work with parents on such things as behaviour and helping children with special educational needs. I run social skills groups, assertiveness training and anger management programmes. I am involved in Statutory work ie Statement of Special Educational Needs, Tribunals and Reviews. I present training to families, parents, schools, and groups of staff and develop programmes of work for them. I work privately in this capacity, assessing children who are experiencing some learning difficulties. My previous job was manager of the Behaviour Support Team in Hertfordshire and I have been an educational psychologist for more than twelve years. I am currently a locum for Essex in this capacity.

Consulting Psychologist

I currently act in a consultation role to SureCare Residential who operate residential homes for children in the Looked After System in Essex. I conduct all clinical supervision for their staff, am part of the Appraisal System, interview new staff, offer therapy to the young people and their families as well as plan and implement the entire psychological induction programme. I have been with SureCare for nearly three years.

Clinical Supervisor

I have been supervising two managers from a Women’s refuge for four years and am now working also with a Clinical Social Worker from a Hospice. This is in addition to my supervisory role at SureCare.

Models of Psychology/Therapy

Although my initial training was in Systemic Psychotherapy I have also studied many other models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy [CBT], Solution Focussed Therapy, Behavioural Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Life Coaching and Working with Children with Trauma. I use the best model for the needs of the client and, as a psychologist and therapist, have an array of tools to treat successfully a diverse number of issues including:

Past Employment details

I have worked with Open University as a lecturer within the Psychology/Education Department, during which time I supported many adults of varying abilities. I was involved in delivering tutorials, presenting staff development, mentoring new lecturers and of course giving both oral and written feedback to the assignments presented by the students.

I have a master’s degree in Education with particular expertise in young people with learning difficulties and behavioural issues. Prior to becoming an Educational Psychologist I worked as a teacher and my last placement was a specialist post as Leader in a Speech and Language Base. Earlier in my career I taught adults with little or no literacy skills and helped to develop programmes of work in this domain. I have also worked with the NSPCC on fundraising and helping children to raise awareness. My first ten years of working was as Office and Human Resources Manager with solicitors in Harley Street, London.
